Each year, during our convention, the council leadership Psi Iota Xi presents awards to chapters who excel in various categories. Here are the 2012-13 recipients:
Beta Pi - Cambridge City, IN Their chapter has earned this award for their PUBLICITY AND MARKETING ideas by making arrangements with local merchants to display banners and signs; advertising in the local newspaper; and making use of an electronic marquee. They also wear shirts with the PIX logo at their sponsored events!
Alpha Xi – Logansport, IN Their chapter has earned this award for their PUBLICITY & MARKETING ideas by getting air time on their local radio station, “Talk of the Town” to discuss events and to let the community know what they do and by displaying their posters at fund raisers which show where money raised goes and who benefits from the donations.
Gamma Tau – Marion, IN Their chapter earned this award for their PUBLICITY & MARKETING ideas by consistently sending articles to their local newspaper after every meeting to promote upcoming projects and events. In addition they market the Psi Iota Xi brand through their speech & hearing clinic and their “Books for Babes” projects by providing these services for the children of their community.
Zeta - Bloomington, IN Their chapter earned this award for their PUBLICITY AND MARKETING ideas. They put their name in front of many people in their community by donating to nearly 40 different community non-profits and activities; placing monthly notices in the “neighbors” section of the newspaper advertising their meetings and thrift shop activities; and featuring speakers from various community organizations with their meetings frequently taking place in those organization’s facilities.
Gamma Xi - Crawfordsville, IN Their chapter has earned this award for their PUBLICITY & MARKETING ideas. Hanging a banner for Better Hearing & Speech Month over Main Street and having an advertising person to handle newspaper advertising for all of their fund raisers & service projects are great ideas!
Omega - Lebanon, IN has earned this award for their SERVICE idea of sponsoring a woman at a retirement home in their county for over 35 years. Their chapter took her to dinner, bought gifts and necessities and included her in their socials. Playing bingo with the people at this home was also greatly appreciated. We are sorry they recently had to say good bye to their friend.
Alpha Omega - North Vernon, IN Their chapter has earned this award for their SERVICE ideas with their participation in Relay for Life; a Hospice event; United Way; Jennings County Players and their Community Foundation in addition to the 5,798.5 Volunteer Service Hours they provided in their community.
Beta Epsilon - Mentone, IN Their chapter is being recognized for their SERVICE. Their devoted concern for the children in the local school district is demonstrated in many ways. Whether that support is shown as “secret angels” for students and their families at Christmas; by sending second graders to the theatre when most would not get to go without this help; or by providing classroom games and tools to the district speech pathologist, their concern for the children is evident
Eta Eta – LaPorte, IN Their chapter has earned this award for their SERVICE ideas by each year going to a local extended care facility along with a group of local girl scouts, singing Christmas Carols and providing the residents with a plate of cookies. All are greatly appreciated by the residents. We hear that the eyes of PIX sisters, residents and young scouts sparkle during this special time.
Beta Upsilon – Mt. Vernon, OH Their chapter has earned this award for their SERVICE in their community. Their chapter provided over 505 hours of service and brought cheer to those less fortunate by coordinating “Food for the Hungry” and delivering hot meals to those in need. These service projects truly enrich the lives of many in their community.
Zeta Sigma - Greenwood, IN Their small, but mighty chapter has earned this award for their FUND RAISING ideas. They have been busy selling dips & soups at craft shows; PIX yard signs identifying the meeting place; Redneck tailgate glasses; Discover Indy books; sponsoring Euchre/Bunco groups & selling several different items at National conventions!
Theta Beta - Paoli, IN Their Chapter earned this award for their FUND RAISING ideas. Selling spring flowers. Selling fall flowers. Selling cheese balls. Mailing to individuals and businesses in their community requesting donations. Writing a grant request through their community foundation and for their general fund, bringing gently used purses filled with surprises to auction during their meetings.
Eta Gamma – Valparaiso, IN Their chapter has earned this award for their OUTSTANDING ATTRIBUTE ideas by making it a priority to have plenty of funds available in their budget to donate hearing aids and by assisting parents in funding them for their children.
Alpha – Muncie, IN Their chapter earned this award for their OUTSTANDING ATTRIBUTES. Alpha’s rich history and reputation has provided a positive presence in their community for 115 years. From their Candy Cane Lane project, to providing meaningful scholarships through the Ball State University Foundation, their chapter’s ability to be a good steward of an endowment, as well as hours of dedication at the Bargain Box has allowed them to provide over $64,000 in grants and scholarships this past year. Their chapter’s attributes are a great example of how furthering charitable enterprises should be defined.
Iota Rho - Odon, IN Their chapter earned this award for their OUTSTANDING ATTRIBUTES. By their commitment to keep their small, six-member chapter active, everyone pulls together for every single event, project, fund raiser, and meeting. They push on and make a strong commitment to their projects so that they don’t let down their school arts and music programs.
Iota - Rushville, IN Their chapter has earned this award with their TOTAL SISTERHOOD ideas by assisting “sisters” when they needed help with housework and the weeding of their flower beds and by choosing to move the meeting locations to a sister’s home when she was unable to leave to attend meetings.
Theta Tau - Midland, MI Their chapter is being recognized for their TOTAL SISTERHOOD and how they take care of one another. They strive to relieve the burdens of the sisters in their chapter whether that burden is caused by disaster (replacing belongings after a house fire); personal illness (quilts for sisters with grave illnesses); or by being the caregiver for a PIX sister's family member with an illness.
Theta Kappa - Edon, OH Their chapter is being recognized for ENCOURAGING & MAINTAINING MEMBERSHIP, especially the ways that they look for new members and maintain contact with past members. Their chapter realizes that keeping the door open to past members is as important as generating new members. “We know everyone is busy, but we try to show how much fun we have while making a positive impact in our community.”
