Bowling Green University’s Service for People who Stutter Program

Awarded $2,000.00

Dr. Rodney Gabel spoke at Convention  2009 telling us .that appropriate therapy services are often not available for people who stutter. This is due to the shortage of specialists in stuttering, the lack of knowledge and comfort that many speech-language pathologists have when treating the disorder, and the shortage of specialty clinics that provide therapy. Since 2003, Bowling Green State University has offered a service program that includes intensive therapy programs for adolescents and adults who stutter and specialized training for graduate students studying to become speech-language pathologists. Dr. Rodney Gabel directs this program. He is a certified speech-language pathologist and a Board-Recognized Specialist in Fluency Disorders. The program has been supported by the local chapters of Psi Iota Xi since 2003 and became a National Project in 2009.  The funds will be used in the summer clinic and for research and training professionals.
